Franklin MA Elopement Photographer – Laura + Joe

As we rounded the corner into 2021, I was nervous about what the next year had in store. With the pandemic still going on (and with no end in sight), It’s super hard to know how things will go. An optimistic part of me hopes that all the weddings that were postponed will be able to happen; another part of me is nervous they will all cancel. And honestly, I can’t really blame them. I try to sit and figure out how I would react with a wedding on the horizon. I know I would’ve been tempted to cancel. I’m grateful for all the work I’ve been able to keep and the bonds I’ve forged with couples this year. One elopement I’m super happy I still got to be a part of was Joe + Laura’s.

I took Joe + Laura’s engagement photos at the end of 2019 (with another health crisis going on – remember triple E?). Their wedding had been postponed from June 2020 to March 2021. With their new date fast approaching and no clue what would happen, Laura + Joe knew they couldn’t stomach changing plans again. Instead, they contacted me at the end of Dec. to tell me they were eloping in a few weeks. I came out to photograph it and it was just the best day.

That morning, it was just the three of us. I arrived to do details, a first look, and some portraits at their house before continuing onto the courthouse. Due to restrictions, I wasn’t allowed at the actual ceremony, but we were able to grab some photos outside. There was also a liquor store down the street and I documented them buying their first married drink.

We then traveled back to River Bend Farm in Uxbridge where I took their engagement photos. Joe + Laura were so happy and it shined through their images. It was a bit cold, but we moved around the park celebrating in different locations. It was awesome spending a few hours capturing intimate moments with them. Engagement photos are similar, but there is something so fun and free about sharing a moment like this with couples. They really do just have the best time enjoying each other’s company.

At the end they told me their family didn’t know they chose to elope. They were going home to tell them when they got home that afternoon. While they were sad about that, they knew how dangerous it would be for everyone to travel and be together. I felt so honored to be part of their story. Joe + Laura used the images to announce their elopement to their extended friends and family. It was such a special thing to be a part of.

So while I’m sad plans had to change, I’m happy to have been a part of this unique experience. I hope to be a part of more magic like this in the future. Congrats Joe + Laura!
